Getting Started

After downloading iTemSpot, you'll be guided through a 10-screen onboarding tutorial covering AR scanning, item photography, search, QR codes, Apple Watch, widgets, Spotlight, and organization. You can replay it anytime from Settings > Show Tutorial Again.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I add items?

Tap the "+" button on the Items tab. You can photograph items, add notes and tags, and assign them to a location. For rapid entry, use Quick Add mode to photograph multiple items in succession.

How does AR scanning work?

Go to the AR scan view and point your camera at a room. The app detects horizontal and vertical surfaces automatically. Tap on any surface to place a location anchor and name it. When you need to find an item, the AR locate view shows directional arrows, distance, and proximity haptics to guide you.

Does the app work offline?

Yes. iTemSpot works fully offline. All data is stored locally on your device. When you're back online, changes sync automatically via iCloud.

How do I sync with my Apple Watch?

Make sure both devices are paired and signed into the same iCloud account. Data syncs automatically via WatchConnectivity. You can check the connection status in Settings.

Can I share my inventory with family?

Currently, iTemSpot syncs across your own devices via iCloud. Shared household support with CloudKit shared databases is planned for a future update.

How do I recover deleted items?

Deleted items are moved to Trash and kept for 30 days. Go to Settings > Trash to view and restore deleted items before they are permanently removed.

How does the Privacy Vault work?

Set up a vault in Settings with a four-digit passcode, strong password, or biometric-only authentication. Then lock or hide items and locations. Locked items conceal details until authenticated. Hidden items are completely invisible outside the vault — including in search, widgets, Watch, and Spotlight.

What is the Spatial 2D Map?

The Spatial Map shows a bird's-eye view of your scanned rooms with item markers projected from AR anchor data. You can pan, zoom, and tap markers to navigate to location details.

Troubleshooting

AR scanning isn't detecting surfaces

Ensure you have adequate lighting and slowly move your device to help ARKit map the environment. Avoid plain, featureless surfaces. LiDAR-equipped devices provide enhanced scanning.

Items aren't syncing across devices

Check that iCloud is enabled in your device settings and that you're signed into the same Apple ID on all devices. Check Settings > Sync Status for details.

Voice search isn't working

Make sure you've granted microphone and speech recognition permissions. Go to iOS Settings > iTemSpot to check. Voice search tries your current locale first, then falls back to English.
